"Alca-trance"

Films: Slaughterhouse Rock (1988)

Alias: Richard Gartner

Type: Mystical

Location: Haunted home

Height/Weight: That of an average human.

Affiliation: Evil

Summary: If there's one prison you never want to end up in, it's Alcatraz. This slimy rock of California houses the worst of the worst, and now it's even got a curse-happy demonic spirit. Oy vey.

History: This evil being has been around even before Alcatraz became the famous prison it is now. For some reason, it's targeting a random kid and cursing him with visions of murder and hideous hallucinations. The kid, Alex Gartner, finds it within himself to bring some friends along to end the curse...by heading to the prison island. Even though the spirit possesses his brother to get the killing started, Alex finds himself allied with the spirit of a dead rocker, because of course.

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: The spirit is eventually lured into a prison chapel, and both he and Richard are vaporized by the ensuing explosion.

Powers/Abilities: Possession, warping of one's psyche.

Weakness: Anything conventional.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-Props for an interesting choice of location for an evil lair, but aside from that, nothing much special. Then again, we'd certainly not want any of those visions he induced.

Trivia: -The rock portions of this film's score and plot were provided by Devo, a New Wave band that actually has some decent footnotes in the history of rock music. Their songs aren't too shabby either.

-For as long as Alcatraz has been famous, it has been argued that it is host to LOTS of paranormal activity, particularly rumors of angry Native American spirits inhabiting the place. The prisoners certainly think something strange is afoot, but whose to say they're right...right?

They say rock and roll is bad for you. Cannabilism and evil spirits are worse.
